film submission and paw award information

Our program director John Scagliotti, is searching the globe for a variety of bear feature, documentary and short films for this years festival. the 2008 Vermont Bear Film Festival Short Film Contest
Are you a filmmaker, videographer or just like to play around with your video camera? The winner, selected by the bear festival audience, will receive the coveted PAW award and $200.00.
The winning film will be featured on the "Shorts from the Vermont Bear Film Festival"

    Guidelines for the PAW Short Film Contest:

  • Shorts should be original in nature with all rights reserved by the filmmaker. No copyrighted material should be included unless the copyright owner including all music, stock footage, stills and performances grants permission. Filmmakers will be required to indemnify the Vermont Bear Film Festival, its staff, sponsors and support foundations if any copyright issues are raised by the inclusion of their short in the contest if your film is selected to be screened.


  • Only short films that were not submitted in past Vermont Bear Film Festivals will be entered in this years contest. A short film is defined as being no longer than fifteen minutes.


    There are no entry fees however if you wish to have your DVD or VHS returned please enclose a self-addresed stamped envelope with your entry.

  • The winner, will be selected by the bear festival audience, and will be featured on the "Shorts from the Vermont Bear Film Festival"
    (Volume 2) DVD.

  • If selected, the filmmaker/producer will allow the festival to use a minute or less for trailer and promotional videos for the festival on its websites and other promotional Internet sites run by the Vermont Bear Film Festival and its sponsors. Shorts will be programmed and projected on a DVD projection system so a quality DVD will be used for projection.

The Vermont Bear Film Festival is programmed by John Scagliotti, creator of the first glbt TV series on PBS, In the Life. Producer of Before Stonewall and After Stonewall.
